The French company Oberthur Technologies has developed a credit card with a security code that changes every hour. According to the developers, this will make it impossible to use the card in case of data theft.
Internet fraud using credit cards has recently acquired huge proportions. Stolen from them data allow attackers to dispose of other people’s money at their discretion, causing their real owners a huge damage.
Many banks tried to deal with scammers by marking suspicious transactions, but this system proved to be imperfect. And then the two largest French banks Sosiete General and Groupe BPCE introduced a new fraud prevention system called Motion Code, developed by Oberthur Technologies.
On the back of the credit card there is a small screen on which each hour the security code change is reflected, which negates all attempts of fraudulent operations. The screen is made of a durable waterproof material and corresponds to the thickness of the card itself. Power is provided by a small lithium battery, designed for 3 years of operation, after which the card is replaced.
The map will be available in France soon. Pilot programs for its introduction are held in Poland, Mexico and the UK.
