As you know, the uninterrupted growth of the number of cars is guaranteed to lead to one of the main problems of all megacities – traffic jams. Improving the system of urban public transport, pedestrian areas, increasing the network of bicycle paths only partially solves this problem.
Yachtsman Elaine Tebolt and windsurfer Anders Brindhal suggested the concept of a water taxi – SeaBubbles for cities with developed water infrastructure in the form of rivers and canals. To implement the project, they have already collected 500 thousand dollars, and by next year they intend to raise another $ 1 million. Among the sponsors of the project – the manufacturer of drones company Parrot, an investment company Partech Ventures and the government of France.
SeaBubbles is a fast, almost silent, electric propulsion vessel with a range of about 100 km. An important point is that it will not create waves at all, so as not to subject banks to canals to blur. According to the authors of the project, the water taxi will become a modern alternative to land transport modes and will help partially relieve urban highways.
Elaine Tebolt already has experience in creating such ships. Not so long ago, together with his team, he developed a sailing yacht-trimaran Hydroptere, which in motion hardly touches the surface of the water. The concept of SeaBubbles uses the same layout, raising the hull above the water even in the absence of hydrofoils .
Restrictions for the widespread use of SeaBubbles are quite natural and are associated with the lack of water infrastructure. A water taxi can run between two points bordering the waterway. However, if there already exists a developed land transportation network, it is unlikely that “water bubbles” will make it a competition.
