The manufacturer of digital displays of augmented reality DigiLens presented a new version of the module MonoHUD, which is noticeably “thinner”, it became easier to manufacture and much cheaper in comparison with its predecessors. The company also announced an agreement with the manufacturer of motorcycle and bicycle helmets Sena on the development of helmets with augmented reality systems based on MonoHUD.
The new module uses only two layers of lenses, which, according to the company’s specialists, makes the eyepieces crystal clear when viewed, while maintaining a brightness level of 8,000 nits on a full-color display with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. It is worthwhile to clarify that MonoHUD is “one-eyed”. The time of continuous autonomous work is 8 hours with a sector of 25 degrees.
The enlarged reality eyepiece displays several navigation “hints”, as well as player tracks, incoming call notifications, which is well suited for Sena helmets that combine support for Bluetooth and smartphones.
Developers still have to find out how their child reacts to the vagaries of the weather – temperature changes and humidity, as well as to increase their impact resistance.
It is obvious that the technologies of helmets of augmented reality are constantly being improved and become more accessible. In the near future, enthusiasts will be able to experience the merits of MonoHUD on their own experience.
